Quality soldering setup
HAKKO makes great units and this one is great for any small to medium soldering tasks. Maybe even some large ones with patience. You can crank the knob to 899, click it in, and it will show you the real-time temp it has reached while heading to 899. I typically run closer to 700-750. The iron itself isn't going to disintegrate at the base over time like other cheaper brands. Take care of it and it should last you a very long time.

The best! I love it!
AWESOME. THE BEST. I’m tough on my tools. I’ve broken three soldering irons THIS YEAR! This product is heavy and sturdy and rubberized. Only one knob, so there’s not a lot of parts I can break off. It gets hot quick and you can dial it to whatever temperature your heart desires. It’s not cheap, but if you appreciate quality and you want your stuff to just work every time you cut it on, buy this and you will never look back. I STILL haven’t broken it and I’ve had it for literally two months!

This thing is a beast for the beginner. I had a cheap soldering iron that would be all over the place and its tips would get destroyed in no time. This thing heats up fast and keeps going. I accidentally left it on for a few hours and when I finally did turn it off the station was a bit warm. I've had no issues with this and hope to use it for the rest of my life.

This is my first soldering station, and quite frankly, it's overkill. It heats up really quickly. The accessories that come included are great. Highly recommended for someone that does a lot of soldering.

AMAZING UNIT , JUST AS GOOD AS THE PREVIOUS MODEL .
This performs just like the previous model which was truly exceptional but I'm quite disappointed that Hakko didn't add an automatic shutoff feature which would make it so much more appealing . The only real difference from the previous 888D is this model has a different heat adjustment mechanism which as another viewer already mentioned makes little difference as the 888D heating adjustment already worked perfect. The 888DX offers a separate iron, (Optional purchase) that can be used with this station which does offer considerably more heat but it's cost is extremely prohibitive costing more than the entire 888DX STATION itself .In closing , as another reviewer said there's no excuse to offer a silver colored iron holder with a different colored main unit , unacceptable , c'mon Hakko.
