Great scanner for the price!

So far I have scanned over 4,800 images and I have been very pleased with the quality of the scans. Not only does it scan multiple images at once, it will often put them in the right direction. And it will still scan an image correctly even if it isn't exactly straight. Sometimes an image may need to be rescanned, but I found this to be only sometimes and with certain images over others. The 4x6 seemed to have the most rescanned and even those were not that many.A few times the images on the scanner bed were scanned all as one image but that was very rare and I found switching to a different selection of images resolved the problem. This occasionally happened with black and white images. Swapping out one of the images for one of color always resolved the problem. The scanner software, despite what some reported, works great for scanning the images and for simple cropping. I really like that you can continue to scan images instead of sending them to your computer after each scan. It makes the process much faster. Additional photo editing would probably best be done in dedicated software.Despite the minor negatives I have mentioned, I still give it 5 stars because it honestly deserves it, in my opinion. No, it is not a professional scanner, but most of us do not need to scan our family photos in a professional scanner. The scans are clear and concise. Exactly what is needed. The scanner is super lightweight and easy to store. And very convenient since it only needs to be connected to your computer and not to a power source.I have had a lot of scanners over the years and honestly I was trying to avoid scanning all of my photos on a flatbed scanner, remembering how torturous it was to get the photo straight in the past. But I am so glad that I took the chance and made the purchase of this scanner.

Easy to use

This scanner works well with my Macbook. It was easy to set up. It is easy to scan my pictures and save them. The color restore did amazing things to my mother's wedding photos from 1973. I am very pleased.

Update of Review - Not Impossible to Install After All

Update: I finally did get the Epson software downloaded and installed on both Windows 7 and finally on Windows11, too. It isn't intuitive and took multiple attempts. The scanner works on Windows 7, but it isn't fast. It works on Windows 11 and if used on a USB 3.0/3.1 port it's pretty sprightly.I'm much happier with this scanner now.The specs on this scanner sound great. The price looked great. I have 50+ years of mine and ancient family photos to scan. I've spent a couple of days trying to install this scanner with no success. I first tried to install on a Windows 11 laptop and then backed down to my old, and favorite, Windows 7 laptop and neither will work with this scanner. The printed documentation consists of just a Quick Start Guide in multiple languages.I'm super disappointed because my first scanner was an Epson flatbed that was perfect but is now obsolete; I had high hopes and expectations for this one. I would not recommend this to anyone. I wil be returning it.

Good Brand Gone Bad

There is an old saying, "You're ripe just before you're rotten". This appears to be true for Epson. I bought this Epson Perfection V39 Flatbed Scanner in spite of all the "checkered" reviews it received because I previously owned an Epson scanner. The previous Epson scanner was great and performed flawlessly for many years. However it appears that the quality and reliability of Epson products has greatly decreased over the years (given all the poor reviews all their products are receiving on Amazon) I bought the Epson V39 Scanner as NEW but it arrived apparently as USED without the factory box, instructions, etc. (I now suspect it was a return item that had issues and was not properly analyzed before sending it out again) Engineering wise it does have the USB Micro B port which is fairly unreliable and probably should not have been used. Once it arrived, setup was troublesome. I have a background in I.T. and am comfortable with hardware and software setup. However, it was confusing and unclear which software to download and install from the Epson site and other sites. After some "fiddlin' " and "googlin' " I was able to figure it out and get the scanner to basically work. However all the features advertised for the scanner on Amazon NEVER DID work. Given the issues others had with lengthy wait times and poor communication, I didn't bother with Epson's Help line. Once working, the software randomly stopped responding giving a "cannot communicate with scanner" message. Disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cord usually solved this. Finally, about 2 months after arriving the scanner stopped working altogether. It's sad when a previously good and respected brand can no longer be trusted.

My only complaint…I didn’t buy this sooner!

This scanner has made my life so much easier! I have thousands of old photos I need to digitize from my parents, which was not working with a regular printer/scanner.It was super easy to set up, though I did have to watch a short YouTube tutorial after I downloaded to get to the right place for multiple photos. It scans several photos at the same time, auto-rotates (most of the time), and auto-crops (every time), which has sped up the process. The screen is 8-3/4”x12”, but it’s small enough that it isn’t a chore to move it around or put it away.It also auto color enhances, which is super helpful with the old photos, making the image better than the original, without having to fuss with individual editing.I’m able to save them in batches and add to any batch when I find a rogue photo (which happens a lot).Dust removal is easy. I use a lense cloth to wipe it off occasionally, which is to be expected with old photos. It has a USB-a, but I just use a converter, so no big deal.Absolutely great quality, at a fair price (I just need it for this project and didn’t want to spend too much money… and I bought it on sale). Also, it’s much cheaper than paying to have it done.
