John Boos WALKCT-BL6036-O Blended Walnut Island Top with Oil Finish, 1.5" Thickness, 60" x 36"

I was hesitant to order one after seeing the reviews that show the table tops coming damaged, but this unit was the exact size i needed for a kitchen table replacement, and the draw of not having to craft one myself was too much. Mine came in 3 days, and i opened it immediately. i can see why damage does occur, as the slab is wrapped only in a thin sheet of cardboard, with a 1.5" square of styrofoam at each end, and then wrapped in thin cardboard again. not a ton of protection, so, if your delivery folks are not careful, it could easily be damaged. mine however was completely fine. it was rather dusty, and took several wipe downs to remove some unusually heavy wood dust. there were a few spots that were a little rougher than expected but a quick run over with some 320 grit sand paper and it was smooth as can be. sealed with Boos mystery oil it now has a rich luster. one note, the table top itself is very heavy, about 80lbs, so unless you're used to moving large items on your own, plan on some help to get it installed. I would definitely recommend this item.

I ordered this for the new island in my remodeled kitchen Jan 17, 2020, the first one was lost in shipping. I hope someone is enjoying their walnut countertop. Getting a new one shipped was easy, I just had to wait until Jan 30 to order it. Received it yesterday, one corner had a minor ding which I will live with. It seems to be a beautiful piece on what should be the finished side. I say should be because the mineral oil finish that should be on it is NOT and the piece is covered is sawdust. It is not as smooth as it should be either. So before my “finished “ product can be used it will need to be sanded and oiled. I am not happy having to do this but want the walnut countertop and the sale price was good. I do not recommend this if you are expecting to put it in and immediately use itor if you do ot have the power sander to finish it. I feel that it will be sturdy and durable, but the finishing craftsmanship was not good.

I have been shopping for this replacement top for several months. I’ve had a different brand on Overstock that I had my eye on and when I decided to purchase it they jacked up the price to almost $1k. I decided to look elsewhere and came across this product. It was over $300 cheaper and it came exactly as I hoped & expected. Packaging seemed to be okay. Little bit banged up in shipping but it was double packed in cardboard and had foam end pieces. The wood itself is also wrapped in plastic. I saw some older reviews of damaged product from shipping. I wouldn’t say it is REALLY secured in its packaging but it arrived in a little over a day with no damage so I can’t complain. It had a heavy coat of sanding dust on it but I had some tack cloth to clean that up. I will more than likely add a food-grade finish to it but I do not intend to use it as a cutting board top. Overall 4 out of 5, I’m happy with it and it looks great! Definitely the best deal out there for this size in Black Walnut!

I knew I was taking a chance when the only other review said the top was haphazardly thrown in a huge cardboard box with no other materials to support or protect it from being beat to death in the course of delivery. Mine had 2 folds of cardboard at each end, within the box and that box looked like it had been reused a million times, so it was worn out...also, one side had a 1" piece of styrofoam running from corner to corner...the other end was missing even that flimsy attempt to protect the top.....of course it came with damage....a split in one of the pieces and some minor dents on the sides....I won't return it because I can fix it....not that I really want to...had this been packaged correctly, I wouldn't be writing this. As long as the corners weren't smashed and the top gouged then I'm at "peace" with it. They are fortunate that I had low expectations.....this company needs to really consider putting more thought into how they ship these behemoth tops. I would imagine it costs them more money in returns then it would to package it correctly...unless they figure most won't try to haul this back in their cars and lift it in and out to their local UPS to send it back?

These are beautiful table tops! The different colors and shades of the wood are blended together to create an amazing mosaic. The produce is very high quality and finely crafted. The ONLY issue is the packaging they come in does not protect the table from damage. I've ordered 12 tops and 6 came damaged. Amazon did a great job of replacing each one but I believe the damage started with the poor packaging. I recommend the product, but be prepared to send a broken table back, and if it's not broken count yourself lucky .

I was a little hesitant to order after reading some negative reviews but the countertop I received was beautiful and had no damage. So glad I ordered it; can’t wait to install it on my new kitchen island!

Severely damaged! Huge crack the whole length of the board, busted corner, and indentions throughout! Do not want a replacement! Just credit me please.

This countertop was a great choice. It was a little rougher than I expected but a light sanding, cutting, and routing made it exactly what I wanted. Add a little mystery oil and everything was fine.
