Slightly flaky USB-C connection
I chose this adapter because it had every port I wanted, particularly HDMI **and** Ethernet, without the odd pop-up Ethernet connection of one brand. As long as I don’t move the adapter or my laptop, it works great — good HDMI output, consistent charging, USB-A ports work perfectly. However, sometimes when I move the laptop or the adapter, the USB-C connector to the laptop loses its connection. It needs to be tighter. I do wonder, on occasion, if that’s actually a weakness of USB-C?

** Updated - Ethernet Needs Driver on Mac Pro
The Ethernet interface did not appear to work with a MacBook Pro, however, after speaking with support (took a couple of days but they did respond), I was sent a driver that solved the issue. Other than that it seems to work fine. Does get kinda hot but as long as it wasn’t sitting on your lap it would be fine. Have been using it for a couple of weeks now and so far so good.

Easy to use and love the leather case
I bought this to match my new computer, and this indeed give my computer a new life. The capacity of it is great, and it also has a leather outer-case for it. Overall, this is a high quality product that didn’t cost much. I think I will use it every single day!

Turns my smartphone into a multimedia center
I've been using a standard Android 7 phone with a micro-USB OTG (On-The-Go) connector to send FLAC audio files to an external DAC for playback on my stereo equipment. The setup works, and sounds great, but there's a nagging problem: Both the phone and the DAC had to be powered from the phone's battery, because OTG does not support simultaneous peripheral use and charging. A few hours of listening depleted the battery. Bummer.Recently, I got my hands on a Sony Xperia 10 Plus, an ultra-widescreen Android 9 phone that uses a USB C connector for charging and peripherals. Combined with this DesertWest USB C hub, the Sony has become the centerpiece of a complete home entertainment system that also happens to be a really powerful smartphone. The DesertWest hub is a sturdy, attractive aluminum box less than half the size of the phone. A six-inch cable (permanently attached) terminates in a USB C male plug, which connects to my phone. Connectors around the sides provide support for three USB 3.0 devices (including storage, audio DACs, a keyboard and/or mouse, etc), a Gigabit Ethernet port, an HDMI output capable of 4K/30p, readers for both standard and micro SD/SDXC cards, a dedicated USB C Power Delivery port, and a USB C passthrough port that also works for charging. That passthrough port is important. This hub requires power, so it needs to be connected to a charger to do anything. But that charger will simulataneously supply power the to hub's host device (my phone) AND any devices connected to the hub's USB 3.0 outlets! So I can now play music through my USB DAC without draining the phone's battery. The phone doesn't charge as quickly as it does without any peripherals attached, but at least it isn't dying.I'm betting that a USB C Power Delivery charger (connected to the dedicated port) would deliver more than enough current to charge my phone at full speed while effortlessly supporting any USB peripherals as well.Still haven't tried feeding an .mp4 file or Netflix stream through the HDMI port. You need an HDMI 2.0 cable to take full advantage of 4K/30p resolution. The packaging of the DesertWest hub is notably classy. Looks more like an expensive watch case than a computer peripheral. If you or someone you know has recently aquired a device with USB C connectivity, this handsome Swiss Army hub would indeed make an excellent gift.
