The long quest for the perfect desktop speakers is over
I have spent years (literarily) auditioning speakers for my work / gaming desktop setup. My priorities are* all-day non-fatiguing sound* details, soudstage with a focus on midrange (vocals)* good sound at low volumesI have tried a bunch of active speakers;* Adam, Focal, Presonousand passive;* Kef LS50, Q 3020i, Dali spector, Harbeth p3esrThe best of that lot was the Harbeth, but they are very pricey. Then I came across the Quad S1, which I hand-on-heart prefer to the p3esr.S-1 size is perfect for a desk, the ribbon tweeter is fantastic. These speakers ticks all my boxes.I have no need to consider subwoofers, they produce more than enough base.

realism
If you're looking for party levels don't bother, these speakers are great at providing a superb stereo image with great depth. Women singers voices are uncanny. They're only small but well worth the dosh, I have mine bi-amped with a pair of QUAD 306 amps (1990)

Melodic delivery, everything sings !
Recently bought these speakers ( although not from Amazon ) and I am delighted with them. The sound from the tiny cabinet is remarkable, particularly the "mid range" which is smooth and mellifluous ! They should be placed about 10" from a back wall and with a decent amplifier ( I'm using a Quad Vena ) you should enjoy any type of music. ( well perhaps not hard rock ) they are not about muscle, but melody..........
