Gorgeous doll
I collect dolls that reflect our family heritage, Celtic for me and Polish/Russian for my husband, that being said this is the most beautiful doll in my collection. The quality is top notch, the dress is simple and elegant and the whole effect is that of a beautiful Russian lady. The doll itself has a gorgeous face with a lovely thick braid and graceful pose. These are collector dolls, I would never think of changing the clothes or taking out the braid. She is a perfect addition to my collection.

Exploring culture
We purchased a few different Barbies in this theme and the Imperial doll allowed for a contrast in the costumes if the time. In particular the headdress is so different than those found in the other dolls. It arrived just as expected and shown in the images.

Grand Duchess of Russia
I am an adult collector who currently collects the Princesses of the World line. This review is for the Princess of Imperial Russia. Like others have said, Mattel didn't do the best job in terms of her costume in regards to accuracy. She isn't dressed exactly like a 19th century grand duchess. But if you're not picky about spot on historical accuracy that probably won't bother you. I think she still looks regal in her own way. Who says simple can't be regal? That's my two cents on the issue of her dress. My favorite part of her outfit is her red skirt with the gold floral pattern. Her red boots are awesome and unique for a barbie. The inaccuracy of her costume is made up with her face. I think Mattel nailed her face with her blue eyes and blonde hair. She looks authentically Russian. The only part I dislike is her crown. It is too big and gaudy looking.Despite the issue with her costume, I am glad I added her to my collection. Historically inaccurate barbies need love too in my opinion.

Historically Inaccurate Barbie
My Russian wife told me point blank she didn't like the doll. I surmised that this was because the attire was not historically accurate for an imperial princess, or so she informed me -- at length. I knew in advance my wife wouldn't like the doll, as she tends to be very, very fussy, like a Russian princess herself. I suppose that's why I bought it for her. Of course, she appreciated the sentiment. I'm surprised Mattel got the outfit wrong, but how would I know?
