I purchased both the small (4L) and the large (6L) for my cats, not knowing which one would work. Or, if both would. The 6L is huge. I won't even bother with it because the food inside the bin would go stale, even with 3 cats. Also, the top doesn't close as snugly as the smaller one, letting more air in.This is my first auto feeder. Had to do it. One of my cats weighs nearly 23 lbs., and it's from free feeding for the past 11 years. It'll do all the cats good to be on a schedule and to control their portions.OK, so we're in it almost a week, and the cats are still getting used to it. At first I believe a couple of them were scared. After all, it does look like a space martian. No one would eat from it.I twisted the top around so they are not looking at the reflective dark smokey plastic, and that seems to have helped. The fur kids are still unsure what to make of the food shooting out into the dish. One tried to figure it out, but she couldn't get her paw inside the chute. It's blocked off somehow.This model is sturdy. The top is round and smooth and takes a little effort for me to open, so I know that the kids aren't going to get into it. It's easy to program. You can feed up to 4X/day in almost any quantity up to about a cup and a half. The only thing that I don't like is that the feeding tray is a little small for their whiskers, and it is completely attached so you cannot remove it for easy cleaning. I'll live with itOh. And I am ordering a second one. 3 cats. One feeder is not enough. I think this is a very good buy.

Really like this product. It’s only our first few days with it but it’s great! Love the recording feature, my puppy runs as soon as she hears our voices tell her to come eat. Has 4 different feeding times, but the 4th is optional. The time was set in military time which was kind of annoying but something to easily get used to. You can either use batteries (I think 4D which is not included) or you can plug it in. I have a puppy who loves to chew the wire and unplug it, so I recommend getting the batteries in as a back up just in case. Like that you can adjust the amount of food from 1-40 levels. Would definitely buy again.

This is the first automatic cat feeder I have ever gotten, and I am really impressed with it. It’s a life saver for any pet parent; I can’t believe it took me this long to try one out. We have a stray cat that has adopted us as its family and as much as I adore the cat, his meowing at my door at all hours of the night for food drives me insane; so, I knew something had to give. When I accidentally came across this during Amazon’s holiday sales, I just had to give it a try.Firstly, it’s extremely basic and simple to use. The instructions are straightforward and don’t leave you guessing as to what to do next. You can arrange it to automatically feed your fur baby to up to four times a day and there are several portion sizes you can select. This I did find somewhat frustrating and I will warn, it does take time to figure out which “portion size” will work for you and your pet. In my opinion, the first few options were extremely small and simply not enough food. However, after just a few tries the problem was solved and now it only makes my life easier. There’s no more waking up to a starving kitty cat.I ended up getting the 4L one and it works perfectly for us. I can fill it up and the food will last about two weeks. The lid seals on tight, keeping the food fresh and prevents ants from coming around to munch on it.It’s durable, lightweight, and excellent quality. It’s waterproof, so no need to worry about it getting ruined from the rain. It’s super easy to clean and is overall a great product. There is a voice feature on it that enables you to record your voice calling your pet that it’s “dinner time”. This is probably more beneficial to dogs, but I think the cat found is pleasant too.Another plus to this is that it can be run off electricity or batteries. As we all know, batteries are expensive and simply do not last very long, so this was a winner in my eyes. The only downside to it is that once it’s unplugged you have reprogrammed the entire thing. For me, it wasn’t that big of a deal hence I don’t have the need to move it often.Despite it's few flaws, I would highly recommend this to others. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the confusion when finding the right "portion size" and the inconvenience of having to reprogram it if for any reason it gets unplugged. In the end, I'm happy with it.

My hungry furball needs to slim down a bit so her vet recommended feeding her a set amount of food a few times a day rather than leaving a self-service bowl. After reading all of the reviews here I settled on this little robot and I couldn't be happier with it. It does exactly what it's supposed to, and gives her just enough food to keep her happy while helping with her diet. The voice recording is cute but little more than a gimmick since she comes running as soon as the mechanism starts to turn to dispense her beloved kibble. By the time she hears the thin recording of my voice, she's already cheek-deep in the bowl.Programming is simple enough if you follow the instructions and it only took me about 10 minutes from start to finish, including opening the box and pouring in the food.Between the automatic litter box, self-filling water dish and this little 'bot I know she's covered when I go away for the weekend. (At first, my friend who used to take care of her when I travel felt like he had been replaced by machines, but I told him he's still welcome to come, and now he can skip the dirty details and just play with the cat. He said "that's my kind of automation.")Pro tip: Unless you're there to monitor the machine every time it dispenses I highly recommend using batteries and the wall adapter.

After using this product for a month, the food stopped dispencing. Somehow a bunch of food got stuck in the motor compartment and there is no way to get the food out. It worked great for a month :(
