Happy with this meter

The media could not be loaded.  Pretty impressed with the quality of this moisture meter. It's light weight but well built and strong. The meter has solid construction meaning that it fits well in your hand and won't flex, bend, or making any sounds from the stress of using it. It actually won't do any of those things if you purposely try to bend it or twist it, either. The probe lid fits nice and tight and clicks on well. It won't fall off in a pocket or drawer somewhere. The battery cover has a single screw to hold the batteries in place so they won't rattle around or fall out if you drop the meter. The screen is bright and clear making it easy to see what the settings are and the reading from the meter. It's very easy to use. The instructions are well written and clear and it includes a chart indicating which setting is needed for each type of wood. I was impressed that the chart separates wood two ways; the first way is by its common name, and the second is by its botanical name where you can find the subspecies of different trees. So, it's easy to find the type of wood your testing quickly if you don't want to be too accurate but you can also be more careful if you want to. It performs great. It's simple and just does its job. No glitches and the readings were very consistent when i tested multiple boards from both pine and meranti. Hope that was helpful. I made a quick video to demonstrate what was said above as well.

This is a nice little device for easily measuring the moisture content of mixed firewood.

I bought this product to measure moisture content for firewood. The moisture content for firewood should be between 15 and 20% for proper wood stove operation.Observations for this device:-the end cap could be difficult to remove if you try to open it from side to side. But if you hold it in your hands and place two thumbs on the front and push back, from front to rear, it's quite simple. The directions could be a little clearer about this.-The description on Amazon's site says this uses a 9 Volt battery. I almost didn't buy it because of this. I was quite pleased to find it uses 2 AA batteries, which are much more universal.-Operation is clear and simple if you follow the directions-For my purpose (to measure moisture content of mixed firewood), I don't have a specific wood type, and it's impossible to identify each piece of firewood. I tried all 8 scales (A thru H) in the same spot in the same piece of firewood, and the measurements didn't seem to vary much. So I think if I stick to one scale, say "A", I think this will serve my purposes.-Accuarcy: I don't have any way to check accuracy (how close to the true percentage). So I took a known dry piece of wood and measured it with all 8 scales. All the readings were around 10%, ranging from around 8 to 12%. Then I took a small piece of wood that was soaking in water for several hours, and it measured around 35%. That was good enough for my purposes.-Precision (repeatability): As mentioned above, the device seems to yield consistent readings. Certainly good enough for my purposes.-All in all a very nice device that's simple to use-I would ask the manufacturer what the relationship of the scales is, if any, to wood density, moisture, etc. IE do the scales go from A (least dense) up thru H (most dense ? Do the scales, for a given piece of wood, go from A (lowest % to H (highest % ? Is there some other relationship ?

Calibration Table Needs Work

This is the first moisture meter that I've ever owned or used, so there's a learning curve here. For example, I was not aware that a moisture meter had to be "calibrated" for different species of wood. I can't complain about the process of calibrating; the device makes that really easy. You just find your wood in the "Calibration Table", find the code (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, or H) associated with it, and use the arrow button on the device to cycle through the letters until you get to the one you want. But the problem is, the Calibration Table is missing some entries. I bought this product specifically to measure moisture in WHITE OAK, but white oak is nowhere in the Calibration table. Indeed, the only "Oaks" in the table at all were "Silky Oak, African", and "Silky Oak, Australian", which are not true oaks at all. So I looked in the "Botanical Name of Timbers" part of the table, and found "Quercus", which is the Genus of all oaks, and there were 4 species listed, plus a "Quercus spp", which I assume meant all other species of oak. Wikipedia lists about a hundred different species of white oak, and only one of them, "robur", was in the Botanical Name list, but I doubt that was what I had, because it's not native to the US. In any event, I had no idea what species of oak I had. All I knew (and all anyone who buys white oak retail knows) is that it was "white oak". I ended up going with calibration setting "A", which matched both Quercus robur and Quercus spp. But it's a bit frustrating to have to look up the scientific name for a fairly common type of wood. It would be nice to have all of the Oaks (by type; red, white, etc.) listed in the main table. Also, I'm no expert on all the types of wood, but at a glance, other fairly-common wood-working woods missing from the main table AND the Botanical Name table are Pecan, White Poplar, and Dogwood. I'm sure a woodworking expert could find more missing.Aside from that, I'd have to say I was pleased with the product. It is easy to calibrate, use, and read. I have no idea how accurate it is, since I have no other method of checking moisture to check it against. I've only used it that one time, and the reading was within the range of what I expected, but my expectation range was pretty wide.

easy to use

Good product for the price. I bought this to read the joist in my crawl space moisture level, so I know if need to open the vent or do any type of air improvement, very easy to operate, just touch the 2 lead in the same time at wood, it would give you a number, during the raining day it read higher, on a sunday day it would read lower, so i know it do what it supposed to do.

Very precise

Very clear instruction manual. This is quite a complex little gadget with many settings which could be confusing to someone but the instructions are very clear and precise. It lists out all the different settings for testing different timbers and materials. Good product.
