Excellent read

I have not physically read a book for more years than I can remember but I was intrigued by Dr Laura's book. Rather than gather dust like every other book I buy, 'What Seems To Be The Problem?' had me gripped from start to finish. As an addict in recovery, only recently have I truly understood the importance of alternative therapies and therefore commend Dr M-A for her determination and dedication to integrate these into mainstream healthcare.

An interesting read

I enjoyed this book - I liked the doctor and how she obviously cares about her patients - so much in fact she is not afraid to try different treatments - she is all about holistic care and how each and every part of us needs care at some point. I liked the way the book wasn't all about how bad the NHS is, it was not political and it wasn't an autobiography of the doctor herself. A good read with some interesting ideas of care,

Wow, so inspiring.

As an NHS worker who's been attacked for holding and trying to promote similar care to Dr Marshall-Andrews, I find her book so refreshing. It shows what holistic care can do for patients.I'm definitely reaching out to you Laura, as I believe that healthcare can get better in the future - regardless of whether or not it gets privatised.Thank you so much for being such an inspiration and I'm hoping we can collaborate in the near future.

A great read!

This book had me gripped from the first sentence - ‘My surgery finished late on the day I was strangled’ - It's a book packed full of anecdotes from Laura's 20+ years as a GP in Brighton, and chronicles her search for effective solutions to her patient's problems with some great results. It made me laugh and cry in equal measures and really appreciate the work of healthcare professionals.

Heartfelt, funny and important!

This book is packed full of inspiring funny anecdotes that Laura has experienced in her 20 plus years of being a gp but underlying it is an important message that provides a blueprint for how the nhs can survive - setting up singing groups for loneliness, acupuncture, art therapy for mental health which has long term benefits for physical wellness and therefore is cheaper for the nhs. Laura focuses on the needs of each individual patient what an inspiration! I strongly recommend this book.

Caring for the whole person

Holistic health care and community care groups need to be much more common. As she says for every £1 spent on art therapy the NHS saves £11. With the health service being brought to its knees, in part because of its own successes we need more proactive action.

Passionate and inspiring

Dr Laura is the GP we all want and everyone should have. Hopefully her example will persuade other doctors and health professionals to look after people as individuals rather than the next patient in a factory line up. Her memoir is fascinating and well written, full of wonderful stories. I enjoyed it greatly.

An Interesting Perspective

As a student paramedic, with a lot of my studies focusing on evidence based practice- this was a fascinating read, especially the parts where Dr Marshall-Andrews discusses patients who do not follow the ‘rules of EBP’.
