Q: what is maximum weight it can hold?

The unit is advertised as capable of 22lb / 10kg. I've only had about half that weight on it, worked fine.

Q: What type of battery is needed?

You will need two triple AAA batteries.. great buy

Q: When does charging lite turns on

I don't see a light turn on when charging mine, so I don't think it even has one. I have to guess when it's fully charged.
