King Kong / Son of Kong, The DBFE

I'd rather watch the original King Kong than any of the new CGI flicks. The acting isn't great but the characters are fantastic. King Kong is the first movie that set up a special unit just for the special effects, it's the first movie with an original score, and the camera work is groundbreaking.Son of Kong is nowhere near as good, but it's still a great watch.

Bought this as a companion piece to my VHS copy of the former, as who knows how much longer that will last. Especially purchased it for the sequel, "Son of Kong", one of the best ever made, not that I've seen all sequels of all kinds. LOL. Won't really scare people; they'll likely marvel at the still impressive special effects!! Well worthwhile!!

Without Fay Wray's remarkable performance in the original King Kong we probably wouldn't have Kong x Godzilla in theaters today. Her character defining performance established the formula for all future success. Fay along with Lillian Gish, and Myrna Loy are my favorite silent film stars who seamlessly made the transition to talkies. All great beauties with immense talent that helped build the Hollywood of today. Enjoy!!!!

Will always consider this the ultimate King Kong film. Pure fantasy and adventure. Used to watch this every Thanksgiving on a cable channel ( not sure why they did play this every Thanksgiving for many years but glad they did ) . This is a true masterpiece and classic!

King Kong is one of the classics of cinema, a pioneering work of special effects, and a nostalgic flick from my childhood (I'm not that old, it came out in '33, but I remember seeing it on vhs). The "T.Rex" (allosaurus) fight is still impressive to this day. Not much more needs to be said. While the movie can be seen for free online, it nevertheless is presented well here (in black and white, full frame glory as originally filmed) but the extras are just enough to give you that history lesson if you were curious. The "bonus" movie on this pack, "Son of Kong" is a bit of a disaster. It's nowhere near as mature as the original (made in the same year, by the same people and starring some of the same actors). This sequel looks like it was hurried out and aimed squarely at kids. While there are some more dinosaur fights that the kids may enjoy, "little Kong" can't kill his enemies, and so they keep getting back up again and beating on him some more (Peter Jackson's version comes to mind here... sometimes less is more, King Kong's fighting prowess doesn't require every battle to drag on and on).Still, for fans of King Kong, this is sufficient, though there is the one curiosity on that out of print version of Peter Jackson's where he included a "deleted scene" where the crewmen fall down a pit and instead of dying instantly (as in the original) they are attacked by giant bugs and lizards (flimed to look like it was shot in the 1930's using primitive special effects). I'm sure that can be seen online for free as well, so if that's all you were wondering about, then you don't have to get it if you're not a fan of the Peter Jackson remake (I'm not, I prefer the 1976 remake even though nothing touches the original).

The sequences of Kong and his dinosaur opponents were all stop-action. 24 frames-per- second, each frame having to be posed and separately photographed: Months of work for a five minute scene that hasn't been equaled since. Don't miss the NY skyline and harbor as they used to be.

I bought these because I have them on VHS. Wanted to watch them again. I watched them growing up when I was in grade school. Needed them on DVD.

SAME PRODUCERS AS King Kong.

The original & best plus the bonus of Son Of Kong. None of the remakes of King Kong have matched the class of this original version Son Of Kong is more tongue a in cheek attempt at a cash in on the first movie & is more of a comedy than a serious thriller but it's ok. The animation still looks fresh today in both movies. Well worth buying either as a pair or separately.

If you seen this when you were young then you already now that this is a classic movie King Kong. 1933 This is in Black & White and still looks great. You think a movie like this they would change to colour. Be nice.As for Son of Kong what a joke, not very good if you have kids and they like the old movie then this is ok to watch as a family with a laugh. Don't get me wrong it has some good parts but a baby Gorilla white, where is mom not King Kong he is a male.For the price can't go wrong with the 2 movies together.

Glad I found this dvd, remember seeing these on tv years ago, if it wasn’t for the old movies we would not have the versions today
