They work to collect scum but will stay stained yellow (pretty gross) and cannot be washed clean. Maybe just try hanging a clean cloth from a hook to achieve the same outcome.

They didn't float but sunk to the bottom of the pool- were cheap and a waste of my money-

Not worth the money. They turned color right away and stopped absorbing anything. I put it in the skimmer to trap the tiny bugs that otherwise go through the holes. Get the Scum bug instead.
