Simple enough to use, but poor video quality and format conversion keeps it from being great.
I don't normally write reviews, but thought others would find this helpful. Here are easy to digest pros and cons:Pros:The Fly6 is super easy to mount to a seat post and doesn't require any tools at all. It uses a velcro strap, which is similar to other rear lights I've had, and in the packaging there are other rubber mounts to adjust to the seat post angle on your bike, and even an "aero" seat post adapter for those without a round seat post. We'll see how this holds up long term and through a full wet Seattle winter.Using the Fly6 also couldn't be easier. Holding the power button on for 1-2 seconds turns it on and recording starts immediately. Since there is no screen, it beeps at you indicating that A) its on, and B) 4 beeps means full battery, 3 is 3/4 etc. Simple enough that I can start riding, hold down the button and know that its running, and what the batter state is. Pressing the button on the other side of the unit cycles through the brightness settings of the light, and thoughtfully, there is a daytime setting where the bright light isn't on, but camera is rolling. I also like having a rechargeable light and not having to deal with batteries. The camera also automatically splits the video into clips that are 10 minutes long, so its relatively easy to go back and see the interesting segments you recorded without having to scrub through an hour or two of footage. Further, it automatically overwrites the oldest footage, so you don't have to worry about managing the video on the card unless you have recorded something you want to keep.I can't attest to the "incident feature" (thankfully), which has the camera automatically record and store (and not overwrite) 60 minutes of footage after the unit spends 5 seconds leaning more than 60 degrees from vertical. The idea being that if you are hit or crash, and your bike goes down, it will keep that footage.Cons:I'm sorry, but the video quality is pretty crap. In regular daylight, I can barely read a vehicle license plat when its more than 30-40 feet away. (which kind of defeats the whole purpose right?) You can easily pick out make/model and color of cars, but don't count on being able to read the plates. I attached two still screen grabs from a video I took this morning. The first one shows the clearest image of the license plate of the car that veered into the bike lane in still image 2.AVI files (seriously?) On a Mac, you can't play these natively, so you have to jump through three hoops to view, convert, and edit the files. How about a simple native file format that I can import directly into iMovie, and edit down from there? Honestly, I would rather be out riding my bike, than managing video conversion codex and learning how to batch convert 18, 10 minute long clips from a 3 hour ride into something I can edit in iMovie. For example, 1 10 minute long clip took 2.5 minutes to convert using Handbrake on a quad core i7 retina iMac... Why can't I just copy the file over and play it? For reference the original 10 minute clips are around 500MB each.Field of view. Not a huge deal but I would rather the video be wider angle than it is, so I can capture more the scene (even if its fish eye distorted). People are plenty used to seeing warped gopro footage now, and the wider angle would be more helpful for what the light/camera is intended to be used for.

This rear camera/light combo is very nice. I got it as insurance incase I need to document an incident on my bike but it's fantastic to take video of fellow riders or my family on a group ride. It is a little heavy but the features are great (sure beats having two separate items: a light and gopro). The built in 8gb memory card gives you about 100 min of 720p recording - supports up to 32GB (400 min - that's a long ride). Battery life is fine for up to 5 hours (that's a pretty long ride).

Great picture quality
Great picture quality. I replaced the included 8g SD card with a 16g card and it will easily record 3 hours before it begins overwriting. The taillight isn't the brightest compared to other taillights, but the main purpose of the device is to record video, and it does that very well. I run a second, much brighter taillight off my seat bag and turn off the Fly's light to extend the battery life. My rides are typically 3-4 hours and I haven't run out of battery yet. The "incident" feature that preserves the most recent recording in the event of an accident, is an important feature considering how many distracted drivers are out there. I haven't used the Fly6 at night so I can't comment on what effect headlights might have on it. Considering this is the newer, smaller redesigned model, it's still fairly large. As such, it can be somewhat challenging to mount if you have a low seat position and an under seat bag as I do. The bottom of my seat bag is visible at the top of the picture, but it still captures approaching cars and their license plates. The picture quality as I said is great and you can easily read a license plate or identify a driver. If you ride through dirty water, you'll probably need to stop and clean the lens if you have a road bike without fenders. Its mount is designed to fit a seat post, nothing smaller. It can also be addicting to watch the videos after rides. lol

Much improved and totally worth the cost
Really impressed with this new generation of the fly 6. I was a backer on kickstarter and used my gen 1 for years. I'mGlad they improved mountings and memory card capacity whilst retaining the ease of use and functionality. The buttons are nice and tactile , the audio cues for changing modes are great. And battery life has been great for 6 plus hour rides .It fits on my bikes fine but I guess if you have very little post that may be an issue.I was hit and run by a texting driver . ER bills were over 30 grand. Since then I do t ride without one of these if I can avoid it.

Mounting options are worse than pathetic!
I owned this for 6 months before my mount failed and the camera is forever lost. The only way mount this camera is with two flimsy Velcro straps to the seatpost, which makes attaching anything else to your bicycle impossible, and makes it labor intensive to remove and reattach the camera after every ride. WTF were they thinking? Video quality is poor; lots of motion blur, poor dynamic range, mediocre video resolution, impossible to view the footage without a computer.I'm very dissapointed that a camera designed specifically for cyclists does a worse job than many other action cameras.

Don't go looking for trouble, but if it finds you...
I cycle daily and apart from the odd close pass I rarely run into bother with other road users and have not really felt the need for 'evidential protection' which I consider to be the only genuine use for this kind of camera. Anything that happens in my forward field of view, I really should be able to see coming, but from behind is more difficult and last weekend I was subject to what I can only describe as a road rage incident for the crime of being a cyclist in the correct lane at a roundabout. Having refused to yield to an impatient driver who attempted to push into the left hand lane of traffic, I was then deliberately rammed by the same driver from behind, having my bike pushed for a couple of feet down the road. I'm pretty sure she only came to her senses as we were in a line of stationary vehicles and she ran out of room. With camera footage I would definitely have made a complaint to the Police. Without, and there being no damage or injury or photographic evidence it is just not worth the effort. The Fly 6 does everything I need. The quality is good enough to clearly identify number plates and the arc of coverage is perfect. It is easy to strap to the bike and to remove with different wedge options for different seat tube slopes and even a fitting for aero posts. It comes witha 8Gb card, usb and is literally ready to go out of the box with the simple housekeeping chore of setting the system time. 1 button turns it on so no fiddly settings, the only thing you can get wrong is to either point it the wrong way or forget to turn it on. It has a microphone, automatically loops to record over old footage when the card gets full and would appear to have a decent battery life, certainly enough for my maximum 2 hour rides and daily commute. The LED lights are also sufficiently bright for urban use without being retina searing overkill.Footage appears to be clear and not juddery on my hardtail mtb commuter. At night the car headlights do seem to overwhelm the sensor making number plates more difficult to discern. The microphone collects ambient noise, so make sure to speak up and clearly if you need your words recorded for some reason.

Great light and daytime camers
Firstly, my thoughts on the light. It's fantastic, really bright and can be seen long by the vehicle coming from behind long before they reach you (day or night). The unit is quite a bit chunkier than I was expecting but I think the newer model is smaller and has a better camera. At the time of my purchase the newer version is twice as much. This items comes with a really good velcro strap to secure it to your bike and a couple of handy mounting spacers. It even comes with an SD card so can be used out of the box (once charged). The camera quality during bright clear daytime weather is pretty good. You can clearly see all traffic and read number plates clearly should you be unfortunate enough to need that information. This review has lost a star because the quality of the camera in low light and and night is very poor. While you can see the traffic, you cannot read any number plates and the brightness of vehicles headlights as they get close to you overwhelm the camera sensor. However, I wouldn't expect miracles at this price point (£75) and overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Invaluable
Easy to use. Even easier to fit and remove from bike. Which you need to do to avoid thieves.Great as a back light and just enough room on the seat post to fit along with saddle bag.I made two online reports to the police. I remarked I had video footage. Viewing the footage at home I was able to detail to the police exact location, time and car registration.I thought a front facing camera would be more useful but this rear view camera has already proven to me how invaluable it was.I wish now they did a fly 6 front. I'm not too keen on the fly 12 because of size and mount on the bike not quick and easy.

Great buy for a gadget-addict cyclist
Works well. Battery has a good life, lasts several good rides without charging. Light is bright and video is OK. Not crystal clear on big screen of course but video clip looks great when transferred to small screen like phone. So far I haven't needed the footage to catch any dangerous drivers luckily, but got some good film when out on club ride. Posted some still pics on Strava, which got some comments.Great buy for a gadget-addict cyclist like me!

Superb piece of kit!
I've been using this for a while now, mainly on my solo rides. With a 32gb card installed, and the lights on low you can easily record 6 hours. Really pleased with the mount, which turns out is way better than the Aldi copy that caused a stir towards the end of last year. This model seems to get better reviews than the current Fly6, and is an absolute bargain of you can find one for less than £60. Highly recommended.

Love this little camera
Love this little camera....good clear footage, very easy to set up and use. Already caught a number of dodgy overtakes from other motorist so confident if anything serious happens the footage will be there ....God forbid!!!

Excellent in every aspect (except for its not-so-great resolution)
A brilliant concept and there's nothing else like it on the market. It's popular in my cycling club and I wish everyone had one to be able to report incidents with drivers. On the plus side, the picture quality is very good and stable even with some vibration on poor roads, the mounting is very solid but quick to dismantle, the battery life is superb, the lighting pattern is very visible, the SD card is easily removable, and most other cyclists won't even know they're being filmed. On the negative side, it's only 720p, not 1080p, so unfortunately license plates often can't be read on passing cars unless the car is bearing down right on you, and this is after all its primary job. Also, the AVI format is not easily viewable on the Mac; 5KPlayer and Movist do a better job than VLC with these files. The camera does a good job in low light conditions but the reality is that plates are very hard to read at dusk due to light reflection. But it's still an essential piece of gear and it works reliably.
