Absolutely the best book I've found
Absolutely the best book I've found. I've been on a iOS development, Swift, Xcode and Coacoa book buying frenzy for the last 3 weeks. This is absolutely the best book I've found. I've taught engineering and computer science at a university level and at many conferences for many years. II've never found explanations so concise and clear. I love this book! Buy it if this is the only book you buy! Many of the book are out of date and the sample code doesn't compile. I skipped busy this book because I was no reviews. BIG MISTAKE! It's brand new! So it's complexly up to date on everything!

I would not recommend this book
This book is so-so if you are tying to learn the basics. Keep in mind this is not how you would write code in a work setting. They implement all the functions in one class. When they are working with Xcode app examples, the viewDidLoad method is very cluttered. They often force unwrap things too!!! I gavie it two stars because it was fun to write better code than what they are teaching. I would not recommend this book.

Best iOS book I've read.....
This is the best book that I have read on iOS development. I have tried almost every program from online to video courses. This book puts it all together. It is simply perfect. I am still reading but I have not been able to put it down. Thank you for writing it.

Highly recommended.
Each chapter covers a specific iOS programming topic succinctly and accurately providing a great breadth of useful knowledge. This book is a great place to start with iOS programming and a good place to remain until you have worked through the whole book thoroughly.

New to IOS-coding? This book is a great place to start!
Before starting with this book I did the first two "Learn to Code" programs available in the iPad's Playgrounds app, so I was somewhat familiar with the Swift programming language but had no experience with actual coding for IOS devices. I started studying this book which is really well written and has many useful examples where it guides you through building an app from scratch. Within 2 weeks had build my first app that was not based on an example from the book.I have now read about 70% of the book and though there is still so much to learn, with this book, I feel like I had a really good teacher that got me started on may way ...!

Great book...after purchase of the paperback version, I received the digital version for free. Very well detailed for the beginner and seasoned developer alike.

If this is the essentials guide, goodness knows how big the reference guide will be. By the time I have read it, it will be out of date.

Excellent Swift bible for beginners
Excellent for beginners and lower intermediate levels. Allows a good understanding of the fundamentals. Not up to date with XCode 9, Swift 4 and iOS 11 but that's only if being pedantic.

An Essential Book For Beginners
This book is perfect for those who want an introduction in iOS development. Being a front end developer with no knowledge of a programming language I found this book's approach to my liking but unfortunately just following each chapter one after another is not of much help, I covered half of this book and realized that I still don't know how to write a single line of code by myself, this is because the author doesn't mention how he came to the conclusion of using a set of code, for really understanding the code you have to visit the iOS API Reference page (developer.apple.com/reference), iOS programming basically consists of using a combination of different APIs showed in the API Reference page, mostly used APIs are SWIFT, Foundation and UIKit, learning how and when to use these APIs is what iOS programming is all about. What I like about this book is:- The chapters are easy to follow but I would strongly recommend starting by watching YouTube videos on iOS development, my favourite is by TheNewBoston but make sure the tutorials are for iOS 10 with Xcode 8.- The initial chapters related to learning SWIFT is written in a very easy to understand manner.- The book breaks down learning iOS development into various chapters with each chapter covering a particular aspect of iOS development like few chapters deal with creating different types of app interfaces, others deal with core data, iCloud, file management, etc. Each chapter is completely unrelated to other chapters, so if you are interested in learning a particular part of iOS development you can skip directly to that chapter.- The chapters are relatively small, it may take only couple of hours to finish each chapter.Overall, I highly recommend this book.

Figures not in colour...anyone buying this book should be aware before purchase in the Indian sub-continent
We are still going through the book...however at the first glance for a book that was purchased from abroad and shipped to India, the figures are not in colour...this is very disappointing...we expected that the tables, figures and diagrams would be in colour for the price paid on paperback. The organisation i work would have paid a relevant amount had we known the price for a book with tables, figures and diagrams in colour...we will shortly revert on the quality of the data in the book.
