Great tool at a great price, save your money and buy this one
This is the same exact tool that I had purchased from MotionPro about 5 years ago for $100. I had used it a handful of times but it finally met it's match attempting to break a rusty chain that bad been sitting for some years.Since I now needed a new one, but didn't feel like paying for the overpriced MotionPro, the cost of this chain tool sold by 8milelake was an obvious deal. It's well made if you know how to use a chain tool properly (most people do not). Don't over pay on a more expensive tool, thinking it will be better because it was more costly.Use a dremel or similar grinding tool to grind the head off of the pin on the chain link before you attempt to use this tool and it will work much better and last many years to come. I also really like the rivet tool as the riveting pin does not sit flush on the river pin. Once you begin to push the rivet pin, allow it to flare the rivet until the rivet pin sits flush and you're done. It's a quick and easy gauge of how little flare is actually needed and prevents you from ruining the rivet link on the chain.

I'm not sure how I should base this review because I like to live by the old "you get what you pay for" motto. I decided to go with this because item because of (a) price and (b) because I thought that there was no difference between this and the the $90 version. I was wrong. The quality is abysmal and I ended up bending bending the riveter and pin quite easily. Pretty much ruined my night and I ended up dropping my bike off at the dealer to have the master link properly riveted. For $13, I suppose it's ok.Also, it doesn't come with instructions but that shouldn't matter too much because you should be resourceful enough to figure it out if you are buying this tool.

Did the job but is cheaply made
Did one chain and maybe it will do another one but I can tell this is falling apart already. Incredibly cheap unit. Fortunately I own a nice swsucaated chain breaker as I do not think this would of handle breaking the old or the new chain. Used it only to lock the new master link.If you are planning to do bicycle chains this unit may do the trick for a while. Or if you want to save some money and time instead of taking it to the shop this unit would do a chain (or two) and did the job for me but it will not last as it is extremely cheaply made (definately not steel, possible made with scrap metal)..TI does not come with instructions and it si not intuitive in any way shape or form. Fortunately there are many YouTubed videos that show how to do it.

Good for sv650s with 525 chain
This is a harbor freight / China eBay special grade tool that comes with zero instructions. If you go to YouTube you can look up motorcycle chain tool or 525 chain installation . When breaking the chain set the tool in place and snug up the main bolt, once everything is in place and the link is inside of the mail bolt THEN you can tighten the small bolt which will drive the link out of the chain. You don't have to grind the links but it will help lessen the chance of damaging a tool from user error.I have never done a chain installation but my first time went very well with this tool.It did it's job and cost $17 with prime shipping.

Just buy one of the expensive tools or go to a shop if you need to rivet a master link.
I would really like to be able to leave a good review for this, unfortunately like another reviewer said the tool broke its first use. I had already broken my 520 chain and just needed to rivet a new master link however this tool has several fatal flaws. First off the tool is cast non-uniformly causing one side of the link to press more than the other side, I can deal with this but it is aggravating. The next flaw (and the thing that brought this from a three star review to a one star) is the fact that the metal they used is incredibly weak. While I was riveting the link the riveter pin flattened (meaning it can't mushroom out the rivet correctly) and bent in the tool to where I had to use a hammer to get it back out.I ended up just having to use a coworkers better tool just to finish my chain, if you need to put a rivet style master link on and are not sure if you can justify the cost of a $100 chain riveter just save your money and take it to a shop.

One time use....if you're lucky
First off,This tool MAY be ok for smaller chains, like 420 or smaller.I needed this to JUST to rivet the new master link on my 530 chain, not break chains. Even with that I got it all done, but just barely. The head snapped off the alignment bolt while pressing the new plate on. Then the rivet pin bent and mushroomed on just the 2nd rivet. This tool is made from very poor quality metal that's softer than the material it's intended to be used on.If you have a smaller chain, this might work for you. Otherwise, spend the extra $ and get a quality tool for 520 chains and larger!

Didn't break when I used it on my 520 chain
I was surprised that this chain breaker actually held up. I've heard from many different places online that you need to spend $90+ on a chain breaker if you're working on 520 chains, otherwise you're just wasting your money. Well this guy held up and was able to break my old chain and rivet the new one on. The only thing I recommend is that you go online and watch a video about breaking and riveting chains because there is no paperwork included that tells you anything about what's included in the kit. I had no idea what the pieces in the kit did and I was using them wrong at first!

It would probably be just fine for small chains
Tried to shorten(break) and rivet one chain and this tool broke. It was a 525 chain. I ground off the heads of the pins, then the tool pressed them out ok, but the press pin bent a bit. I don't think it would have survived another link. Then while trying to rivet the new connecting link, the threaded barrel of the tool twisted right off before the link even started to flare. Returned for a refund. It would probably be just fine for small chains, but not for street bikes.
