Q: Can the included virtual instruments and fx be used in any daw? i'm using cakewalk.

Works well with Native instrument software. Cakewalk is outdated. It became SONAR. Included software works with specific programs provided. Old DAW's get iffy... The older it is.

Q: How does one learn the lessons provided? Do keys light up?

Hi, Alesis support here! The supplied 60 free lessons from Melodics will allow you to play along to modern music with onscreen scrolling notation and build your rhythm, timing, and syncopation skills with ease! Please note, Qmini's featured keybed will not light up.

Q: Can you transpose to a different key or does it just shift octaves? That’s pretty useless on a 88 keyboard.

You can't use their device at all because they don't ship software with it and the software links at their site are dead. i tried for 2 weeks to get software from them, then i returned keyboard. This company used to be decent.
