So Worth It!
I am a avid solar cooker. I believe it is responsible and I appreciate keeping the heat out of the house in the summer time. I had dealings with One Earth Designs (manufacturer) regarding some minor hiccups with my Solsource and I have to tell you I've not had this great customer service in a long time. My concerns went to the very top and I was contacted very shortly by the top to assist. This company stands by their product and as a consumer I appreciate that! Now, on to the actual Solsource. It was a little hinky to put together but we managed and it works great now. There is a bit of a learning curve with it but I can say that about most things-so really not a big deal. It cooks great. I work out of my home so one of my favorite things to do is take the Solsource outside in the morning and fry up some bacon and an omelet. I've cooked pasta in it, rice, meat and so forth. I will continue to cook unusual things and will update my post with video/and or pictures so you can see just how great this works. I absolutely love this thing. I anticipate taking it camping with us. I do visit campsites that don't allow open flames due to gorgeous trees that they wish to preserve, so the Solsource is definitely coming along! Some hints for the new user:You may have to move the black mirror a bit to get it in just the right spot. You will want to use traditionally a black pot or frying pan.Cast iron does work but takes longer to heat up-your choice. If you are using a pan that has a rubber or plastic handle make sure you point the handle AWAY from the mirror area. Trust me.Make sure the area that you set it up is fairly level or your food will cook uneven.Pro's:It is the sun people-it's free. Use it.House much cooler.Gas bill reduction. Can become very hot, very quickly.Smaller footprint.Lightweight.Withstands high wind quite well. The swivel. Love it.I can do more than just bake (unlike my solar oven)Easy clean up.Cons:Not the easiest thing I've ever put together but not the hardest either.I haven't had much luck on partly sunny days.A bit awkward bringing it out of the house (but so worth it)Bottom line: If you care about the earth, if you care about your pocket book (long term gas or electric useage), if you wish to keep the heat out of your house or even if you care about impressing the neighbors-buy this thing and most importantly USE it every chance you get.Bravo One Earth Designs! Bring more things to the market please!Update 7/14/17: I am still using my SolSource and really like it. However-stop the presses- -I just found out they are now offering a SolSource Sport (smaller version) which honestly will make my life much easier. I take my current SolSource in/out of the house on a frequent basis and it is awkward obviously. So, to have a smaller version is amazing for use at my home, camping, family reunions and so on. Guess what I'll be ordering shortly?Oh, and I do plan on adding a video-if only the sun would shine again soon!

Really big - measure your spaces for use and for storage
This solar cooker is so big that it is hard to store out of the way when not in use, yet close to where we want it. I wish we had bought the small box style instead. The mistake is mine, though. I should have paid better attention to the description and actually measured where I planned to put it.

Warning: Arrived with missing parts and we haven't heard back from the makers of this product!!!!!
The one star is for the delivery process of this cooker. I'd like to rate this cooker, but it was missing some key components. So we're out $399.00 for a cooker we can't use. There isn't a phone number for this company to get a hold of someone personally. I'm frustrated because I wrote the company several times and my spouse has done the same. Nothing. I'm also deeply disappointed because I've had my eye on this thing for over a year and we saved for an opportunity to buy it because it would work well in sunny Florida. When we finally had the funds together to make our purchase we were over the moon excited. We kept tracking the package in anticipation of its arrival. As soon as it arrived we read the manual and even watched the videos on the One Earth website to assemble it properly. It didn't take long to realize that the two pieces that hang the reflector on the bar were both missing. And then some other small pieces. So it sits in our living room in the big box it came in. Unusable. All this should be points to consider if you're thinking about buying this cooker. Especially if you're on a budget like we are and you don't have money to just toss away on something you can't even use. It's under a one year warranty so let's see if they honor it. I'd be happy to update this review when and if we're made whole. I'm sure it works beautifully. But as it stands, we can't even use it. And not hearing from One Earth on this matter doesn't make me feel confident about this purchase or the integrity of this company.***Update*** I was finally able to get a hold of someone but I really had to work hard to track someone down that could help me with this problem. The phone number on the manual only leads to a recorded message letting you know that no one is available to help at this time. (I dialed that number over & over again and always the same result) And it turned out that all my emails and even my warranty claim were being sent to someone that's not with Solsource anymore (the person that contacted me told me that this problem would be corrected immediately). A warranty is a great thing. But what good is it if you can't even contact someone to make a claim? Finally, I just didn't know what else to do so I clicked on a link for a facebook page from the company's own website for a solar cooking community. In desperation, I just publically poured out our issue & wrote down what was happening to us with our purchase. Someone from the company finally contacted me through this facebook post. The parts were sent to us by overnight mail. This cooker really is amazing though. As soon as the parts arrived, we assembled our cooker to see how fast we could get water to boil. It was quick and we were so impressed with how hot this thing could get so fast! I love a happy ending as much as the next person. However, no customer should ever have to chase down a representative from any company, especially when the product is under warranty and it's pretty expensive. In fact, just this week I ordered a book from the christianbook website and received the wrong book. I called the number on their website, got to speak to a real person, gave the invoice number and the problem was solved. The phone call took a total of about 3-4 minutes. And this was a purchase that was under $50 with no warranty. I spent days trying to find someone from this company to help me. With each passing day, I felt a feeling of dispair setting in that we wouldn't get this problem resolved. What if I hadn't thought to go to that facebook link? With all that said, I still believe in this product and I'm so happy to own one of my own. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. We live in an area that sometimes has severe storms and power goes out for a period of time. This cooker gives you a certain peace of mind in the sense that you feel more prepared for all the "what ifs".I hope this review helps someone else.

The solar stove was delivered at lunch time and I ...
The media could not be loaded. The solar stove was delivered at lunch time and I was able to assemble it in about 35 minutes following the simple instructions. It's a well made product. The reflector mirrors (it's not glass, but sort of plastic) really are quite shinny. Got my paw marks off with a damp microfibre cloth. There was a little sunny weather at about 3pm (21 August) and I thought I'd give it a go. Corn on the cob in a pan with a little water. 15 minutes was all it took to cook them. So I was surprised by how well it worked in the afternoon. The Met Office says sunny weather on Wednesday - so will be cooking something more ambitious at lunch time (when the sun will be at its strongest) and see how it goes...
