Cute doll, but!!
Cute doll... and it gets 4 stars... which is being nice because the doll was made in 1991....But Mattel I hope you have learned a little more about the culture since then. This outfit is REALLY BAD!!!!!!! it's not what a jamaican woman would where... this is the outfit the house slaves wore here in America.

Jamaican Queen
I see that some people on here have a problem with the doll's outfit because it's reminiscent of slavery times. I'm honestly not bothered by her outfit. I'm just proud to have a doll that represents my Jamaican roots. I plan to collect more from the Dolls Of The World series. The ones that came out in the 80s and 90s had such cute packaging designs, and I love how each doll comes with their own country tidbits, story, and facts on the back of the box. So far, I currently have dolls that represent Morocco, Scotland, Kenya, Nigeria, India, Ghana in addition to the Jamaican doll. I really want to get more Hispanic, Asian, and European ones. I hope in the near future Mattel comes out with a brand new set of Dolls of The World Collection that represents more regions such as Ethiopia, Dominican Republic, and Cuba.

room for improvement
to be honest the only reason i bought this doll was because its labelled a jamaican barbie. I love barbie dolls and i am a jamaican so i had to have it.However I do not like the costume. it is not a traditional jamaican costume. I would have preferred to see her wearing a kind of red plaid skirt with a white blouse with plaid trimmings and plaid bandanna or straw hat, maybe holding a basket. The outfit this doll is wearing just looks like a regular dress a slave would wear back in slavery days. The back of the package box says that most jamaicans have ancestors from africa ,and Im glad it specified the word' most ' because the jamaican motto is "out of many one people" There are jamaicans with indian, chinese, and caucasian background as well. And for heavens sakes ackee dos not taste anything like eggs, if you want to describe how it looks then you can compare it to scrambled eggs. I like the fact that a jamaican barbie was created ,but i think there is room for improvement.
