Reese Towpower 86066 Licensed LED Hitch Light Cover with Dodge Ram Logo, Chrome Finish 2 inch

The light stopped working rather quickly, but it still looks cool, so my son has left it on his truck anyway.

I ordered this thinking that my 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 Express Crew Cab would have a cool addition to it. I was planning on hooking it up and adding a fun dimension to my truck excited that it would light up with my running/brake lights. They even send with a battery so that you can press the button on the outside of the box to see how cool it is lit up. Once you open it though you realize how flimsy this is made. I put it together and went outside to my new truck to get it set up. I immediately realized that this could never work. If you have a 2018 Ram you know that your trailer plug in is at the highest point of the rear bumper and that your receiver hitch is a good 6 inches lower. You'll also know that the only way for the wiring to come out is the side of the hitch about 3 inches back. This means that your wiring will follow the yellow line in my picture up to your plug. Now of course you could run it through the hitch, behind the bumper, up over the back side of it and then have the plug hang over the top of the bumper. But I tow boats and trailers all the time, trying to remove this cover and ensure that the wiring stays in place every time is too much. Not to mention I'm not confident that the plastic Ram would even make it through. BEFORE YOU BUY LOOK AT YOUR TRUCK/SUV and try to envision where the wiring would go. If you don't mind it hanging out the back of your truck, then buy this. Otherwise you need to run custom wiring.

The hitch cover looks great. The wiring is too short. I had to add about 6 inches of wiring to plug into the trailer outlet.

This is my 2nd light. I had to replace my 1st one because some jerk not paying attention bumped into me and took out my hitch light. Yes, it is plastic and it broke when hit by another vehicle. But for the price, it's pretty decent. It lights up as advertised and it looks good. Like everyone else, I had to extend the wiring. I soldered about 2 more feet to it, using heat shrinks to protect the soldered joints, then put some black corrugated, plastic tubing around the wires and fished them right thru the hitch to the backside of the bumper, then back over the top and plugged into the wiring adapter built into the bumper. All the wires are concealed except about 3" where it goes into the plug. I'm pretty happy with it. 4 stars because I had to extend the wiring.

I really like this, however, after reading the other reviews, it's apparent that the thin layer of chrome over the RAM head will begin to flake over time, and that is disconcerting, seeing as this is quite a bit over-priced. It's fairly large, and as of now (still new on my '01 RAM Sport 4x4), it looks great! I hope it lasts. Due to its size, again from the reviews, they are easily broken because it protrudes out a bit. The entire unit is plastic, and connects via the 4-prong trailer connection (I recommend getting a splitter cable, so you can still still connect other things up as needed). I would give it 5 stars, but due to the high price, only 4.
