Works great
It stated this is a frequently returned item but I must say, it works great! Gets hot very quickly and cuts clean.

Great tool
I wish I had purchased this sooner! I have made numerous items out of Sumbrella, and always had an issue with edges fraying. This tool allowed me to make a complete Bimini top with no fraying edges at all. It cut through the material easily, and was very simple to use. Very simple to cut right wher I wanted too, much easier than attempting to do with scissors. My only regret is that I didn’t buy the one with adjustable heat, if not careful the blade does get too hot and makes the edge black. Contrary to previous reviews the gun fits perfectly in the case with the blade and guard attached. Overall I would recommend this to anyone.

Good Value
Used this to cut Sattler Marine Grade Fabric for a wheel cover for my boat. Worked great. No issues at all. I would buy again.

Good operation, poor packaging/case
Some reviews knock the adjustment wheel on this but I found it to be fine. I paid NO attention to the numbers on the wheel and simply adjusted the knob upward until the cutting blade started to glow red. I set the adjustment to a dull red glow on the blade and sliced thru a bunch of outdoor fabric (like Sunbrella) with a perfectly melted edge on the fabric and it was very easy to "cut" in a straight line. The tool heats up in just a few seconds so there is really no wait time at all.Now the downside: As others have pointed out, the foam padding in the case is cut for the disassembled tool. After you use the cutter once it would be great to put it back in the case easily but no, you have to take the cutter off and if used, take the cutter base off as well. Not the end of the world but a simple design to allow storage in either configuration would have been a HUGE win for the manufacture at little to no cost. The hard plastic case is cheap and doesn't hold it's shape well. And like others, the plastic locks the lock the case shut sometimes fall off and do not fit well. In either situation, the case isn't designed to accommodate the power cord (which nicely, is quite long, a good thing) so you have to simply STUFF it into the case.A quality case and better designed internal padding would be a night and day improvement for this product. A 3-inch velcro strap to replace the cheap tie-wrap on the power cord would be nice as well. You are close RoMech. Your cutter blade could use some upgrading as well. Granted it works just fine - let's say that again, it works just fine - but it looks like it was fabricated by junior high school shop class welder wannabe!

Hands down the best MYOG hot cut for synthetic fabrics I found
i MYOG outdoor gear and can't say enough good about this cutter, at least compared to everything else I've tried.Hot cutting is critical, especially for home production, to keep the synthetics from fraying. It can also just be a heck of a lot easier for certain cuts. I've used this cutter on about 40 yards of cuts so far, and it's been instantly better than the previous solutions I tried that were based on soldering irons. It heats up in seconds, and the analog temperature adjustments seems consistent, and precise enough to get relatively smoke-free cuts.I've used the bottom knife guide exclusively. This has allowed me to not have to cut on cardboard. If I just tip the unit up slightly, I can even cut directly on a plastic workbench. The only improvement I would make is some sort of "outfeed" separator, which would keep the two cut pieces apart behind the cut, like a table saw riving knife. Thin materials requires some finger contortions to keep them from bunching behind the knife near edges, and thicker materials can stay hot enough after the knife to bond back together slightly. Not even remotely a deal killer, as this is SO much better than everything else I've used, but noted for completeness.

great for canvas work
I do mostly marine upholstery and that includes canvas covers for boats. Canvas will fray really badly when cut with scissors but if you cut it with a hot knife, it seals the edges. This is great for canvas. it gets super hot so burns well but its small enough for a little handed person like myself to easily use it. I also like that it comes with a guard so I can place it flat and cut/burn away. I do use something under it that won't burn just to make sure I'm protecting my cutting surface but I don't really have to.

Works very well
I use this for a weekend business and it performs perfectly every time. There is a bit of an art to using it by getting the blade up to temp and then "pulsing" the trigger as you are cutting to maintain the heat without overheating. Once you master it, its a perfect tool.

Didn’t work for what we needed
Didn’t work for us the way we expected it. The fabric ended up all glued to each other then had to use a cutter to separate which ended up fraying all the material. Which is what we did not want. Will return.
