Masterful!
This was great, but I caution those who ate beginning Buddhism. The Venerable author gets very detailed in the practices and habits one needs to cultivate to become a practicing Buddhist. It was a treasure trove of information.

My girlfriend turned me on to Buddhism. This was my first book I read about Buddhism. Thich Nhat Hanh does a great job explaining things in a easy to follow way. I have since bought 6 or 7 of his books. He is amazing if you have any interest in Buddhism read his books.

A beginning to attain serenity and wisdom
Thich Nhat Hanh “The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching.”It is an easy read for non-academicians and easy to memorize Buddhist terms. Four stars are the most I can give to this highly recommended introduction to Buddhism.I have read the book one time and read it now for the second time. I have had previous approaches to Buddhism and had forgotten the basic teachings. The simple explanation for the dilution of the teachings is that the time had not come yet to understand fully the teachings of Buddhism whether Zen or Tibetan or previous schools of beliefs. As I started to read again from the beginning, I came across terms in sentences such as, “The Four Noble Truths are the ‘cream’ of Buddha’s teaching. The Noble Eightfold Path includes Right Speech and Right Livelihood. These teachings are for people in the world who have to communicate which each other and earn a living.” I thought that all people who communicate with one another should have the knowledge of the Noble Eightfold path to continue their journey regardless of their activities. On page I3, I came across a paragraph that left me perplex on the choice of the narration. Another paragraph on page 14 makes me think about a painful learning process on meditation for a novice like me. Thich Nhat Hanh opens the door for the suffering’s healing process and teaches the art of acceptance of suffering and acceptance of all lives’ hardship with perfection. I read Thich Nhat Hanh message of wisdom a second time, and will certainly practice his teaching on meditation, but I will also find other branches of Buddhism that will broaden my knowledge and understanding of Buddhism. Because of the complexity of any religious, philosophical and spiritual guidance, each and every one of us should pragmatically follow the teachings that open the way to paradise, nirvana, heaven and the universe above.
