ODOMY USB C Hub 8 in 1 for MacBook Pro 2019 2018 2017 2016 13“15“ Dual Type C Hub Adapter with Thunderbolt 3, 100W Power Delivery, 4K HDMI, 3xUSB 3.0 Ports, SD&TF Card Reader

This is a very nicely designed USB-C hub. It has a very solid feel, the construction is metal (aluminum), and the fitment is perfect. By fitment, I mean: -It fits very well into two of the USB-C ports on either side of my 2017 15" MBP. -It sits virtually flush with the side of the laptop -It sits at virtually the exact same height as the rubber feet on the bottom of my MBP, so it isn't causing stress or strain on the ports. -The color is very close to the space grey finish on my MBP, but not an exact match.(Note that the picture I included showing it plugged into my MacBook has it on the "wrong" side of the computer. I had other dongles attached to the other side, so I just plugged it in here for a quick pic to show how well it attaches flush to the MacBook.)I tested this ODOMY hub for a couple of days and had the following experience: I used the power connection (USB-C 87W power supply plugged into the hub), HDMI port for a display, and several USB ports for peripherals (wireless headset, keyboard, mouse, etc). I found that contrary to the product information, the hub did get very warm to the touch, bordering on what I would say is hot. This occurred both when I had the power supply connected through the hub (using the correct port designated for power) as well as when it was connected to a port directly on my MBP (the hub only had a monitor and peripherals attached).Unfortunately, while all of the ports on the hub seemed to work well, I experienced multiple crashes/freezes per day while I was using this hub. I do experience freezes with this laptop on occasion, but never this often, so I have to assume there is some correlation with using the hub. And when I removed the hub and went back to using other dongles for USB and displays, the frequent crashes immediately disappeared.My MacBook is running with a bunch of corporate-mandated applications (mostly security scanning apps and such) from my employer that I believe are the cause of some of my system instability, but I cannot discount the fact that the rate of crashes increased significantly when using this hub. I am planning to try this hub again just to give it a second chance, but if it doesn't stop causing frequent crashes, I will likely be forced to part ways with it going forward. Which is a shame, since this would make a great travel hub for my MBP.2-star rating is only due to the crashing. I would rate this either 4.5 or 5-stars were it not for that (very problematic) issue.

I’m not the biggest fan of this particular USB-C adapter. The color is nice and matches my Space Gray MacBook Pro and I do like that the bottom of the adapter is rubber so that it doesn’t slide or mar up surfaces that it sits on. The connection to my MacBook Pro is fairly secure and doesn’t have much play, but that’s pretty much the extent of the things that were done right with this adapter.The problem is how the USB ports are setup. The adapter only looks and works correctly on one side of your MacBook Pro but the USB-A ports require you to plug your flash drives (and anything else) in upside down. That’s something that I just can’t get over. On top of the upside down ports, the connections inside seem to be rough and unfinished. Plugging anything into the USB-A ports takes some effort and almost force. Since this adapter connects to the MacBook with the two USB-C ports I don’t like to apply much force to the other side with the USB-A ports in fear of causing issues with my very expensive MacBook ports.Overall, this wasn’t thought out and the design needs some improvements. The quality is lacking as far as the internal port connections as well. I think there are several other hubs that are comparable without these issues that I would recommend instead.

I have another of these type adapters and it has a wire that attaches it and it works with my clear case on my computer. Except it doesn't always work... This one without the wire DOES work perfectly every time, except when I have my protective case is on my computer, which is all the time. There is no toil involved in removing the bottom of the case but it is just an extra step I would prefer to not have. However, it does work perfectly... Every port is solid and reliable and all of the ports are useful. I would prefer to have a ethernet connection as well, but it isn't a deal breaker. This one is made REALLY well compared to my other one, and it actually looks like it came with the computer. I might try modifying my case to fit my needs without removing the case.

This is an excellent hub except for one feature. It has a rubber pad on the bottom that makes it thicker than my 2017 macbook pro. The end result is that the hub adapter is holding up the upper left side of my computer rather than the upper left pan on the bottom of the computer. I worry only because it is putting stress on the usb-C connectors.Other than that, this hub provides full power transfer to the computer as well as the peripherals plugged in. Although it claims 100W power delivery, it can only deliver the power provided by the power adapter you are using, which is typically limited to 60W. I did not try and install all the possible items, but I did check that the HDMI connector, the SD card slot and the usb-3 connectors all worked at full speed. My only problem was with the HDMI connector which I could not get to operate at 4K speed nor be recognized by some of my periperals. But it did work with my TV (but not at 4K speeds). I am not an expert on HDMI, so it may be something I am doing wrong.The good news is that the usb C power connection to the computer is very stable, which is not the case with many of the hubs I have tried in the past. I also like the blue light which identifies successful coupling.
