Pennington Smart Seed Perennial Rye Grass Seed, 3 lb

Due to cooler weather it took 12 days to germinate, but now it is thick and lush even in heavy shade. Next season I will use this on my whole yard. As to anyone having difficulties, Read the instructions!

I read a lot of negative reviews on this product but there were some good ones so I thought I'd take a chance..I'm glad I did because the grass looks beautiful! Believe me, my yard is nothing but rocks, glass and whatever they dumped in the yard so to have actual grass growing is a miracle!! I used this product and some grass food..really nice!

took longer to grow than expected.

This is the best grass seed I've ever used. Our backyard was a dirt patch, completely shaded, with 2 large dogs running all over it; located in the southern United States and utilized in early March. I only watered the grass seed maybe two times, and within a week strong healthy grass was growing. Wonderful price, absolutely buying more.

I used this about a year ago, & while it sprouted well it contains fescue seeds.......not mentioned in product listing. This may not bother most people but I wanted full rye lawn. Fescue tends to grow faster & spread. Now I have to try to eradicate it or start over.

I've now used three bags of this seed and have been amazed by it's growth. Within one week you see shoots, and after three weeks you can walk on it. Make sure to follow the guidelines for usage and you will not be disappointed. Keeping it well watered during germination is a good tip for this seed.

The old version of Pennington seed was great. When they changed to new packaging (not what is shown in the product picture on Amazon) the quality of the seed went down the tubes. If you like crab grass and other undesired weeds, then this is the "grass" seed for you. Thanks to this "grass" seed, I now have unwanted weeds growing all over my lawn. Plus, the grass that is included, is different than the grass mix in the old version of Pennington grass seed that was actually good stuff. Now, I will have to rip out the lawn created by this junk seed, so I can replace it with decent grass. This has turned out to be a very expensive bag of "grass" seed. Caveat emptor.

Amazing!!! I’m not a landscape pro and I took a cup and just sprinkled this around my yard. We had a huge dry patch and within weeks we had sprouts. The spot is almost completely full now. So fast and easy! Our yard is pretty shaded too and doesn’t get a ton of water, so this is definitely the go to for beginners!
