Just doesn't work in a real world scenario
I really wanted this to work, but I just can't recommended it in good standing. The theory makes sense, but the implementation is just not practical. The bottom line: if you feed it ONLY dry leaves then you are fine. But the reality is ... leaves are attached to twigs, so you inevitably put in very small branches/twigs. This negates any advantage it may have given you, because these small twigs cause the line to break off. It ultimately took me more time in replacing line and unclogging the hopper than any time/space savings. I worked with it for three weekends straight, each time trying to be more careful in not putting in twigs, but it was too much work and I finally gave up. Also after a few hundred start/unclogs/line replacement the motor is starting to struggle. After other reviews I am guessing it won't be long before it completely dies out. Much simpler to run my mulching mower over the pile of leaves than use this product.

It works very good on leaves just have to watch the sticks
It works very good on leaves just have to watch the sticks ,they get caught in string. You can just take out as you are feeding the leaves in. I would recommend it for small yards. We have over a acre and lots of trees, I mulched a lot but had to just give up after a while. I put mulched leaves around my bushes and flower beds. I put the shredder over a garbage can and piled leaves in from tubs I had filled. That kept you from bending down to ground with each feed. You still get lots of exercise doing it!

Had to modify for my purpose, but happy with result
I would have given this more stars however the product is very flimsy, and I had to modify it. I'm going to have to replace several of the screws because they're plastic and I don't think they'll hold up. You get what you paid for.that being said I was happy with how well it mulched! You could only put a small amount of leaves in ii in order for it to not get bogged down. Don't even bother with the flimsy Cutting Lines that come with the product , they don't work at all. I went and bought some bigger 2.7mm ones and had to drill out the hole that they go through. Now I am not a handy woman, so this was very easy.I have 5 mature trees in my yard 3 of which are over 60'. The city allows two garbage bins for yard waste (so generous..not!) so getting all this into those bins is impossible. However this product helped me achieve that .One last comment I had to change out the shredding lines 6 times! it may be because some of the walnuts that fall for my tree, but I don't think so , I think the shredding lines are too close to the bottom so they get shredded faster know pun intended! The 3 photos are before, during and to give you an idea of how big my piles are my 2 dogs in one of them .

I like it much better than the other brand.
It does a great job. I like it better than the other brand (I forget the name, but it is orange - and also available on Amazon) - whose mulcher died after 3 or 4 seasons. This one:o Has a storage space for spare cutter "strings" built into the side - which is very handy. The other one does not.o It has a foam air filter which can be removed and cleaned. Grinding leaves is very dusty, so this is a good idea. The other one does not have this feature.o This one has a feature that allows one to change the size of the opening below the blades. This is very handy, especially for dealing with moist and wet leaves. The other one does not have this feature - so wet leaves are even more of a pain.I wish that the funnel was one piece. I understand that this way it is easier to ship, but this way also feels much flimsier.

Ecological Solution to Magnolia Tree Output
I have a mature magnolia tree and a 6000 square foot lot. The leaves come down steadily and it finally occurred to me that by dumping them in the green bin to be hauled away, I was sending away nutrients and then importing compost by the truckload to replace those nutrients (probably mostly nitrogen). After watching a TED talk on making compost solely from leaves, I decided I had to shred my constant supply of magnolia leaves to make compost in a timely fashion. I wanted a hand powered shredder, but they don't seem to exist, so I found the Ultimate Mulcher and it's been wonderful in accomplishing my goal of making piles of shredded leaves to compost. It is dusty and noisy and you go through a lot of weed-whacker line, but it gets the job done. Suit up with safety gear and make if project. I have decided that once every 4-6 weeks I will need to do a two hour session to keep my leaves processed. the other reviews are right, you need to let the leaves flow throw the barrel uncompressed or the machine bogs up. I am gathering my leaves in a big garbage can for my monthly session. I toss the seed pods out (you can grind them, but you go through too much weed whacker line). Yard looks great and its a good carbon usage over all...I am using electric power to grind, but not trucking things around each week.
