One of the few resources available on a potent military that proved a formidable adversary to US forces. Along with a brief history of operations against France, Japan, America, South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos this book covers evolution of the PAVN/PLAF forces, uniform changes, select rank and insignia, and the ever useful Osprey color plate section. There is also organizational data on certain army formations.Only complaint; This could probably have been done as two parts, focused on either the PAVN or PLAF, and maybe not cover so much timeframe. (Osprey is generally more focused period-wise nowadays) The book has very little information on the VC themselves.Makes a good companion to;The U.S. Infantryman in Vietnam (Battery Press), 0-89839-071-0

Don't waste your money, this has very little on the Viet Cong it is primarily about the post war army of Vietnam

A apparently well researched and comprehensive overview of the multiple fighting forces of this nation we were once at war with. You must admire these people who have a multiple centuries long history of fighting foreign forces for their time when they can self govern; even though that government is very foreign to my own.

There is not a single accurate photo showing the sandals made out of tires that both the NVA and Vietcong wore 99% of the time. The book, published in the 1990's was obviously strongly influenced by the modern day PAVN. I was looking for an ACCURATE history. I did not find it in this book. A decent guide that tries to add new material to a well-covered subject. Better on post-Vietnam conflicts than the Vietnam war (sorry, Second Indo-China Conflict) but tends to be a bit thin on any particular period. It does add to your knowledge, but is not the one to get first if you are new to the subject.

To big a subject to be covered in one book. Good illistrations.

Dreadful colour print quality in 2 copies of the same book.

All is as i would expect for a good and trustworthy DVD supplier, well packed, and as described.
